For the first digital technologies challenge, I have chosen to design two infographics for displaying data about NAPLAN; specifically looking at the new implementation of NAPLAN Online.
Since its first introduction to Australian classrooms in 2018, the online service for testing of years 3, 5, 7, and 9, has had multiple reports of technical difficulties.
Even still, The Department of Education and ACARA have made reports and statements to the success of the online feature as a whole, saying it has had many successful tests submitted and plenty of benefits for the future.
I have taken this research and statements to compile two different infographics that have utilised the same data. Both focusing on the pros and cons.
The first infographic I felt created a bit more of a relaxed and inviting way to deliver the information while the second gets straight to the point of what is considered a positive to the new testing format, and what has been concluded as negative.
The style of these infographic posters was done using the year 4 level standards, these include:
Digital Technologies Knowledge and Understanding – Representation of data Recognise different types of data and explore how the same data can be represented in different ways (ACTDIK008)
Processes and production skills – Collecting, managing and analysing data Collect, access and present different types of data using simple software to create information and solve problems (ACTDIP009)
I felt this year level best represented a way of delivering my form of data representation and that is in the form of ‘pros and cons’.
Students in year 4 look at persuasive writing for the English curriculum and part of persuasive writing is looking at the pros of a stance or the cons for against. Students would be able to use this learning to create posters sharing the pros and cons within their persuasive arguments.
The first infographic poster was designed using the site ‘Easel’ – http://www.easel.ly. I found this website quite easy to use once I was able to have a feel around.

The second poster was designed using an infographic template from ‘Canva’ – https://www.canva.com/templates/infographics/

Researching the topic of NAPLAN Online and creating these infographic posters helped me to discover that I wanted my conversational article to be focused on the new implementation of the software in Australian schools.
